I bought an Acer Aspire 5742 in September so its around 8 months old. After a few weeks of using the laptop internet explorer suddenly became very slow and wouldn’t load. Now I have to try and open in a few times for anything to happen. Obviously I can use other browsers and now I use firefox/chrome at all times, but I am not sure if IE is the underlying problem.
Here is what happens when i load IE:
1) I click on IE (via desktop or actual path, both have same outcome)
2) It now causes the computer to run as if its 25 years old and nothing works for about 5 minutes
3) a) Either nothing happens, IE does not load, and the laptop goes back to normal
3) b) IE opens up and is completely blank, nothing works and it becomes unresponsive.
4) After all of this the laptop usually runs slower and windows fails to start up when I reboot for the first few times.
All of the above also happens when I try and load the browser choice link which seems to run into Chrome (not sure if it tries IE first).
I have reset all internet settings. I have deleted IE many times and loaded all different versions of it. I have done all the steps on the online microsoft troubleshooter. I have deleted both of the anti virus softwares to try and clear it up. My laptop is more or less empty of anything and this problem still happens. I literally have no idea why it only happens to IE and nothing else, chrome/firefox open instantly.
I have 4 months left on the year warranty and might see if Acer can fix this although I’m not sure if they deal with software issues.
The laptop is running windows 7 64-bit and has an intel core i5-480m processor. It also has 6GB DDR 3 memory – I am not sure if anyone else has problems with this type of processor? or with IE?
